Two Oakland artists take on a massive mural in the city's downtown, only to find themselves at the center of the debate over gentrification and cultural resiliency.
Theo Aytchan Williams is the Artistic Director of SambaFunk! “Carnaval Explosion” and founding member of the Funkquarians.
Theo studied Carnaval dance and drum under Mestre Carlos Aceituno founder of the acclaimed Carnaval group Fogo Na Roupa. After being Introduced to San Francisco Carnaval community in 2000, Theo became King of Carnaval in 2001. Since then, he has played an active role in the Oakland/San Francisco Bay Area Cultural Arts Community and has been instrumental in recognizing subsequent San Francisco Carnaval Royalty.
Theo began taking modern dance at San Diego State from the late Danny Scarborough. His dance experience also includes West African, Colombian Cumbia, Puerto Rican Bomba and Latin Reggaeton. Theo is the Executive Producer of CaribelinQ Omnimedia, digital media & arts production company which specializes in African, Caribbean & Latin Arts & Entertainment, a member of the Latin Grammys and Producer of the San Francisco Carnaval King & Queen Competition, World Carnaval & Cuica Y Clave
